Golden Delicious apples are a great all-purpose apple with a delicious flavor. The apples ripen in September and October and are yellow when ripe. They are large, firm, and crisp and are more tart than Red Delicious apples. They can be eaten fresh, used for cooking, or stored for a few months. The Golden Delicious tree requires 800 chill hours and is self-pollinating so it does not require another tree with which to pollinate. For planting, apples trees prefer full sun and slightly acidic soil. At maturity they can reach a height of 15 ft. to 20 ft. and a width of 15 ft. to 18 ft.
