The Shinseiki Asian pear tree makes a great addition to the home garden or small orchard. It grows in a pleasing shape with beautiful blooms in spring and abundant fruit in early Fall. This variety produces a medium, rounded fruit (like an apple) with a smooth, yellow, and crisp flesh. Often called apple-pears the fruit is firm and crisp, less juicy than European pears, but pleasantly sweet. They are best for fresh eating and cooking. The average size of this plant is 10 ft. to 15 ft. high and 10 ft. to 15 ft. wide. The Shinseiki requires full sun and only occasional watering once established. Like most Asian pears, Shinseiki is partially self-fertile, but better crops will be obtained when a pollenizer is present. The plant is shipped in a #5 pot with a minimum height of 24 inches. It is hardy in USDA Zones 5-9.
