Yerba mansa, Anemopsis California, is a native to Southwest US and California. This perennial herb is a part of the lizard tail family. In Spanish, Yerba mansa translates to the calming herb. The succulent, deep green leaves lend themselves to white, sometimes rose-speckled flowers. The center of the flower develops a hard, cone shaped pod that falls of and sends seeds out to be spread. The foliage of the mature plant will develop red stains, essentially turning bright red in the fall. The whole plant has a pleasant, spicy fresh odor.
