Sweet Flag, Acorus calamus (americanus), is a hardy herbaceous perennial bog plant with bright green sword-shaped leaves. Unique in the sense that it gives off a pleasant fragrance when the leaves are crushed/broken. While not a true native, its distribution to much of the U.S. is related to the range of Native American tribes who used it in ceremonies, medicines and for trade.
