Detail
Juicy and sweet, the Candy Crisp apple lives up to its name. It is shaped like a Red Delicious apple with the top wider than the bottom and knobs on its flooring and has golden skin with a pink blush. This apple tree is vigorous, upright and a heavy bearer. Fruit crops will keep up to 4-months in proper storage. Fruit texture is firm and juicy. Some have described the Candy Crisp apple as having pear taste and scent and lacking in apple flavor. The Candy Crisp apple was discovered by chance in a New York apple orchard among red delicious apple trees. For this reason the red delicious apple is thought to be a parent of the Candy Crisp apple. The Candy Crisp apple tree is disease resistant and can withstand the cold, although it needs full Sun to produce fruit. It is hardy in USDA Zones 4-7.
